WALK FOR HOPE HERE

We want to thank everyone who participated in this event last Saturday!  Please check back with us later in the week for updates on the event.  And remember, it is not to late to ask freinds to contribute!

On Saturday, we  hosted the second annual Everett Gospel Mission
Walk for Hope Here walk-a-thon: a 1.8 mile fundraising walk from the Everett Gospel Mission Women's Shelter to the Men's Shelter.

In 1961, The Everett Gospel Mission was established to provide dignity and compassionate care for homeless men, women and children in our community. For the past 52 years, we have done just that while becoming the largest emergency shelter in Snohomish County for men women and children.

The Walk Event:

By participating in this event, you helped bring the message to our community that you support alleviating poverty and homelessness HERE.  Many of your collegues won some great prizes, while enjoying a leisurely walk with family and friends, and were treated to breakfast at the men's mission at the end of the walk.

The walk is so much more than a great way to raise funds, it is an awareness raiser, aimed at increasing the community’s understanding of the issues faced by the homeless and the services our organization provides, including:
  • Free meals and housing for 170 men each night at our Men’s Shelter and for 75 women & children each night at our Women and Children’s Shelter, as well as reduced rental units for up to 10 single women at Lydia House.
  • Substances abuse counseling, clothing, toiletries, showers, laundry, Bible training classes, access to therapeutic day care and three hot, nutritious meals every day of the year.
  • Dignity, self-sufficiency, and life stability.
Why Did We Walk in the WINTER?

During the walk, we experienced a typical Everett winter day; cold, a bit of rain, a small trace of snow ... and even a tiny bit of sunshine. Although it might have been more pleasant to walk in warmer, drier weather than we typically have in February, the homeless don't always have that option. As participants walk the almost two mile course, we hope you took a moment to "walk in the shoes" of those who lack the warmth and comfort of a home in winter.

To get started:

Even though the Walk was on Saturday, it's still not to late to participate. Click on the register button at the bottom of the page. You may sign up as a team or as an individual.  We ask that each participant pursue a minimum of $50 and teams target a minimum of $1000. All participants that raise the minimum will receive the official walk beanie.  Our goal is to raise $1000 for every year EGM has served this community for a total of $50,000.
Here are 3 ideas to get you started

   1.   Self Donate
Kick off your fundraising by making a personal, tax-deductible donation to help the homeless.

    2.   Ask a Friend!
Ask 5 friends for $20 each. Or 10 friends for $10.

     3.   Host a Fundraising Event
Get you friends or your church involved, host a bake sale or a garage sale.

Proceeds from the walk will go directly to the Everett Gospel Mission's programs for homeless children, women and men. Thank you for your commitment  to give hope and help to the homeless in our community.
